The Venezia Family:

As you may recall, my husband and I struggled with the idea of just accepting that having a child was simply not to be. Then fate intervened to direct me to you.

I met Regina, one of your patience thanks to a terrible snowstorm and the MTA's lack of workable equipment! Metro-North combined my train to Darien with Regina's train to Stamford. Each train car was packed to capacity and Regina with her expanded pregnant belly slid into the middle train seat next to me. She was breathing hard and seemed uncomfortable. I simply inquired if she was okay. I have never been more rewarded for initiating a conversation since we inevitably began to discuss her pregnancy, her age and her doctor. She gave me your name and some encouragement. I hesitated at first, I later called your office when my doctor at New York Presbyterian offered me no consolation after my first confirmed miscarriage or any directive about what to do differently going forward.

You were so confident that I would be able to conceive and sustain a pregnancy that you immediately inspired me. I have heard that term PCOS bantered around by all my doctors, but they made it seem like an unimportant detail. I love that you instantly knew to target my entire treatment at my PCOS rather than just following a list of guidelines for universal infertility. The glucophage and the progesterone together were a winning combination after my active ectopic pregnancy and the discovery of my damaged right fallopian tube. I felt like the obstacles had become insurmountable and almost conceded defeat yet again. You were so caring. I will always remember that you called me personally the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to assure me that you would be available over the holiday weekend if I did not feel well from complications of the tubal pregnancy.

When I next became pregnant, I felt I was attentively being monitored and cared for by everyone in your office, who knew me by name. You referred me to Eighty-third Street Radiology and Dr. Ostrovsky who also was very kind and sensitive this was also welcome and refreshing since I had suffered much callousness among the ever-rotating group of physicians at NY Presbyterian. I had become emotionally frail and jaded in my attempts to get pregnant. The comfort and personal approach offered was as vital as the medication.

I had an extraordinary pregnancy I will always cherish the experience. My son Alexander brings me joy and awe every day. He has enhanced and completed the bond that joins my husband and me life seem sweeter.

I found my way to you by chance that long snowy commute home was the best train excursion I ever made! I hope that other women who struggle with infertility caused by PCOS somehow find their way to a doctor, who also understands the condition and the remedy. My life changed because of your intervention. I will forever be grateful for your wisdom, council, concern and encouragement.

It simply does not seem like enough to say: "thank you". But I extend to you my sincere and heartfelt thanks. You are remembered in my prayers. I wish you as much happiness as you have allowed me.
